What’s "Lorem Ipsum"?
Scrambled Latin derived from Cicero’s "De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (45 BCE). Widely used as placeholder since the 1960s. The classic opener "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…" is corrupted Latin and intentionally meaningless.
Why use it?
Real text distracts from layout review. Lorem Ipsum has the right rhythm of word lengths so designs look natural, but readers can’t actually parse it as content.
Variations
Many alternatives exist: Bacon Ipsum (food terms), Hipster Ipsum (overused trendy words), Cupcake Ipsum (desserts), etc. They make placeholder text more fun in mockups.
