About Golf Handicap Calculator
How handicap works
WHS (World Handicap System, 2020): your handicap index = average of best 8 of last 20 score differentials. A differential = (score - rating) × 113 / slope.
Course handicap
Your handicap index converted to strokes for a specific course based on its slope. A 10 index on a 140-slope course = 10 × 140/113 ≈ 12.4 strokes.
Average vs scratch
Average male golfer in the US: handicap ~15. Female: ~28. Scratch golfer: handicap of 0 (shoots even with course rating). PGA tour pros are +4 to +8.
