About Pomodoro Timer Planner

Why 25 minutes?

Cirillo named the technique after his tomato-shaped kitchen timer (pomodoro is Italian for tomato). 25 minutes is short enough to maintain focus, long enough to make progress. Adjust to taste โ€” 50/10 also works.

Research behind it

Studies on attention show that uninterrupted "deep work" produces disproportionate output. Forced breaks prevent fatigue. The exact interval matters less than the structure.

When it falls apart

Hard creative work sometimes needs longer flow states. If you\u2019re "in the zone," it\u2019s OK to skip a break. Pomodoro is a default, not a religion.
