Speed Calculator
Solve for speed, distance, or time using speed = distance ÷ time. Speed results are shown in km/h, mph, and m/s together.
Inputs
How to use this calculator
1. Choose what to solve for
Pick Speed, Distance, or Time. The matching input is hidden and you fill in the other two values.
2. Enter distance and time
Set the distance and pick its unit (km, miles, or metres). Enter the time using the hours, minutes, and seconds boxes — they combine automatically.
3. Provide a speed when needed
When solving for distance or time, type the known speed in km/h. The calculator converts everything to a common base before computing.
4. Read all three speed units
When you solve for speed, the result is shown in km/h, mph, and m/s at the same time so you do not need a separate speed converter.
About speed, distance & time
The core formula
Average speed equals total distance divided by total time. Rearranged: distance = speed × time, and time = distance ÷ speed.
Average vs. instantaneous
This tool gives average speed over the whole trip. Your speedometer shows instantaneous speed, which rises and falls with traffic, hills, and stops.
Speed vs. pace
Runners often think in pace (minutes per km or mile) rather than speed. For training splits, the pace calculator is a better fit.
