About Depreciation Calculator
Which method to use?
Straight-line is simplest and most common for financial reporting. DDB and SYD are "accelerated" โ more depreciation upfront, useful for tax purposes when allowed. US tax law uses MACRS, which is a variant of DDB.
Section 179 / bonus depreciation
US businesses can often deduct the full cost in year 1 via Section 179 (up to ~$1.2M) or bonus depreciation (60% for 2024, phasing down). Real tax depreciation often beats book methods.
Salvage value
The estimated value at the end of useful life. Straight-line and SYD subtract salvage; DDB ignores it until you would depreciate below it.
