How to use this calculator
1. Enter your current grade
Use the percentage your instructor or the course portal shows for everything graded so far — homework, quizzes, midterms — with the final still outstanding. If the portal already folds a placeholder zero for the final into that number, ask for the pre-final average instead, or the answer here will read low.
2. Enter the final exam's weight
The syllabus states it, usually somewhere between 15% and 40%. That weight is the only part of the course still moving: everything else is already banked, which is why a 20% final can rarely rescue a grade that has drifted far off target.
3. Set the grade you want to finish with
Type a percentage — 90 for an A, 80 for a B, 70 for a C, 60 for a D, 50 to squeak past a pass line. The big number is the score the final has to deliver, and the badge underneath tells you honestly whether that is a light revision week or a long shot.
4. Read the table before you panic

About final exam grades
What formula finds the score I need on the final?
With w as the final's weight written as a decimal, the score you need is (target − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w. Your current grade only carries (1 − w) of the course, so the final has to make up whatever gap is left, and a small weight makes each missing point far more expensive.
What if the score I need is above 100?
Then that target is out of reach through the final alone, because a perfect paper still lands you at your best-case grade. The calculator shows that ceiling and the highest letter grade still available, so you can aim at a target that is genuinely reachable or ask your instructor about extra credit and dropped scores.
Does my current grade already include the final exam?
No. Enter the average of everything graded so far, excluding the final. The final's weight is the remaining slice of the course. If your syllabus mixes several weighted categories, work out that pre-final average first with a weighted grade calculator, then bring the number here.
