About Gold & Silver Price Calculator

Spot vs retail

Spot is the wholesale market price. Buying retail (coins, bullion) adds 3-10% premium. Selling: pawn shops 40-60% of spot, jewelers 50-70%, dedicated refiners 90-95%. Always shop multiple buyers for best price.

Karat reference

24k = 99.9% pure. 22k = 91.7% (typical India/Middle East jewelry). 18k = 75% (high-end Western jewelry). 14k = 58.3% (typical US jewelry). 10k = 41.7% (minimum to be called "gold" in US).

Silver fineness

999 = 99.9% pure (investment-grade bars). 925 sterling = 92.5% (typical jewelry, flatware). 800 (some European coins). 720 (older US coins). Lower fineness coins are worth less per gram but still have melt value.
