How to use this calculator

1. Enter the original price

The pre-discount price you see on the tag or listing. Set quantity if you're buying more than one of the same item.

2. Set the discount

Tap a preset chip (10โ€“70%) or type a custom value. The result updates instantly.

3. Stack a coupon (optional)

If a coupon applies after the on-shelf discount, enter it as the second percentage. The calculator applies them sequentially (not added).

4. Add tax if it matters

Sales tax is applied to the discounted subtotal โ€” most retailers tax the price you actually pay, not the original.

About discounts

Sequential vs. additive stacking

20% off + 10% off applied sequentially = 28% off total, not 30%. The second discount is applied to a smaller base. This calculator uses sequential stacking, which matches how most retailers handle "extra 10% at checkout" promotions.

"Up to" pricing

Promotions like "save up to 70%" use the maximum discount as a hook. The actual item you want might be at 20โ€“40%. Always check the per-item price.

Anchor pricing

Original prices are sometimes inflated to make a discount look bigger. Compare against the typical or "street" price for the item, not the listed "regular price".
