Lab and textbook densities are often quoted in g/cm³. Multiply by 1000 before entering them here — for example, 2.7 g/cm³ becomes 2700 kg/m³.

About mass, density & volume
The relationship
Density is mass per unit volume, so m = ρ × V, ρ = m ÷ V, and V = m ÷ ρ. Knowing any two lets you rearrange for the third.
Mass vs. weight
Mass measures how much matter an object contains and is the same everywhere. Weight is the force gravity exerts on that mass, so it changes with location. This calculator works with mass.
Useful reference densities
Water is about 1000 kg/m³, aluminium about 2700 kg/m³, and iron roughly 7870 kg/m³. Use the density calculator if you only have mass and volume.
