Driveway depth
4" of #2 base + 2" of #57 surface stone is a common driveway buildup. Just a top-up: 2-3" is enough. New driveway over dirt: 6-8" of base.
What sizes
#57 (3/4") is standard driveway stone. #2 (1.5-2.5") is base/drainage. #8 (3/8") is decorative/walkway. Pea gravel is rounded, decorative, but rolls underfoot.
How much per ton covers
1 ton of #57 covers ~100 sq ft at 2" deep. So a 30×10 ft driveway at 4" needs about 6 tons. Order ~10% extra for spillage and compaction.
