About Wind Chill Calculator

Why wind chill

Wind strips away the thin layer of warm air your body produces, accelerating heat loss. Wind chill quantifies this — what bare skin "feels". It does not affect non-living things like water pipes.

Frostbite times

Bare skin at -25°F wind chill: frostbite in 10 minutes. At -45°F: 5 minutes. At -65°F: 2 minutes. Cover all exposed skin in extreme cold.

Why temps > 50°F have no wind chill

Above 50°F, wind cools you by evaporation more than convection — and the math no longer reflects perceived temperature. The formula is officially valid only at ≤50°F.
