Why checklists work
Atul Gawande’s "The Checklist Manifesto" showed that simple lists dramatically reduce error in surgery, aviation, and construction. They externalize what your working memory shouldn’t have to hold.
Keep it short
Lists over 9 items become noisy. Group complex processes into sub-checklists (pre-flight, in-flight, landing). Recheck items at most once before checking off.

READ-DO: read item, do it, check off. Use for unfamiliar processes. DO-CONFIRM: do the work, then run through list to confirm. Use for familiar routines.
