How is this calculated?
Each expense is divided equally among the people you selected as beneficiaries. Each person's net balance is "what they paid minus their share of all expenses". We then pair the biggest creditor with the biggest debtor, settle the smaller of the two, and repeat — minimizing the number of transactions needed.

How is this different from Splitwise?

This is a quick, no-account, single-session tool — perfect for splitting a weekend trip or a roommate's bills after a Costco run. Splitwise persists groups across time and notifies people. Use this for one-shot calculations.

Can I split unevenly?

Yes — for each expense, check only the people who actually used it. The cost is divided equally among the checked beneficiaries. The "All" checkbox is a shortcut for "everyone is sharing this one".

Does my data leave the browser?

No. People and expenses live in this page only. Refresh and they're gone. Bookmark or paste your entries into a note if you need to come back to them.

How is who pays whom decided?

We use the "greedy settle" algorithm — pair the person who paid the most with the person who paid the least relative to fair share, then settle the smaller of the two amounts. This gives the minimum number of transactions to balance everyone.
