About Trip Expense Splitter
How the algorithm works
Compute each person\u2019s balance (what they paid minus their fair share). Pair largest creditor with largest debtor and settle the smaller of the two. Repeat until everyone is at zero.
Uneven splits
This tool assumes everyone shares all expenses equally. For trips where one person did not eat dinner that night, log items per category and split each separately.
Currency conversion
If you paid in multiple currencies, convert each receipt to a single base currency (use the Currency Converter) before entering totals here.
