About Percent Off / Discount Calculator
Stacking discounts
When two discounts apply ("25% off + extra 20%"), they multiply: 0.75 × 0.80 = 0.60, so the effective discount is 40%, not 45%. Stores rarely make this clear in ads.
Tax on discounts
Sales tax is applied after discounts (in most US states) — you only pay tax on what you actually pay. Manufacturer coupons can sometimes be taxed at full price; store coupons are not.
Beware reference price tricks
A "70% off" tag is meaningless if the original price was inflated. Track real prices over weeks (CamelCamelCamel for Amazon) to verify the discount is real.
